Welcome to the kink meme for Critical Role!
This community is open to all fans of Critical Role no matter what your preference for pairing may be. You do not have to join the community: you can either watch it or just track the post. Anon commenting will always be on, and IP tracking will be off. So feel free to stay anon if it makes you more comfortable.
What is a Kink Meme?
It's pretty simple. You post a prompt and your fellow fans get inspired and write fic based on that prompt. As it is a "kink" meme, a great deal of fic will be of the smutty variety, so if you aren't into that or not of a porn-reading age, this place won't be for you. Not all fic has to be smutty, but it does have to be kinky.
Clarification: This is a kink meme, therefore prompts must be kink-based. It is not a general prompting/headcanons meme. There have been a couple of people confused by that, so we're just making it extra clear.
Please only post one prompt per comment so to avoid any confusion.
How do I prompt?
Post each prompt as a new comment to the main post. Include pairing (or threesome or more if that's your thing) and anything else you want to add. You should put, at the very least, the pairing in the subject line along with a specific kink if it applies. You can put the whole prompt in the subject if it will fit, but if it doesn't, use the comments. For example:
Subject line: Beauregard/Jester, friends to lovers
Body of comment: Jester's been letting Beau use her for sparring practice. That kind of proximity does things to a tiefling.
I see a prompt I want to write! What now?
Go for it! You don't have to claim it, and fills can be written by more than one person. Once you've finished you must post it as a response to the original comment. Responses should use a subject line that includes the pairing, rating & any necessary warnings (i.e. incest, non-con, etc.). If you have titled your fic you can also include that. Also, as LJ limits the size of comments, if your fic goes into multiple comments, please note that your comment is part 1/5, part 2/5 and so on. Using the prompt above, the subject line could read:
"Punches and Pastries, Jester/Beauregard, M, 1/3"
And now some rules...
While we want this to be a relaxed and cool place, we also don't want people to feel uncomfortable being here. If you have suggestions or comments on how this community can improve please address to them to
criticalkink in a PM or drop a comment on this post.
The most important rule of all? HAVE FUN.
Now go forth and prompt!

- Since we're all supposed to be adults here, let's act like it. Be respectful to your fellow posters.
- Your kink is not someone else's and their kink may not be yours. If you don't like it, don't read it. It's really that simple.
- Please no bashing of other pairings. Just like with kinks, everyone has their own flavors, and this is neither the time nor place for ship wars. This meme is meant to include the entire fandom.
- Crossover prompts are allowed, but they must include a Critical Role character as a main part of the prompt.
- RPF is also allowed, but please prompt it over here!
- Het, slash, femmeslash? You're all welcome here. The more the merrier!
- It's not a requirement by any means, but writers love feedback, so if you read something you enjoy, take a second to tell the writer. Whether it's a one word response or something longer, it's always appreciated.
- Please follow basic kink meme etiquette by not linking the cast or crew to this meme.

"Fire and Water", Fjord&Caleb, breath play & fire play, 1/?
Date: 2019-09-14 03:16 am (UTC)“I actually don’t think you’re crazy,” Fjord says. “You’re one of the more put together people I know. At least, that’s what I see. That’s what you show.” He looks away, not able to maintain any eye contact. “Thank you,” he says, voice growing softer. “For - I was going to say ‘caring’.”
“That’s accurate,” Caleb supplies. And then - “Give me your hand.” Fjord hesitates for just a moment, before closing the gap and letting Caleb take his hand, and they are locked into a forearm grip. “I am not a good person, but - we are friends. We are friends?” he asks, a bit uncertain.
“We are friends,” Fjord says, firmly, letting himself look Caleb in the eyes.
“I did not ask you this because I do not trust you,” Caleb continues. “I trust you with my life, and the same may surely be said for the rest of us. I ask because sometimes these weights are easier when they are not borne in silence, when they are not borne alone.”
“You trust me when we’re in a fight,” Fjord says. “It’s a different thing, when we’re not. I don’t know if the others trust me when we’re not in dire straits. I don’t know if they should.”
“Ja, perhaps,” Caleb says, “but I trust you. You are a good person - or at the least, a better one than I. I trust your judgement, and I trust your strength to see us through.” He offers a comforting squeeze, and pulls himself away. After a moment, he leaves, wordlessly.
Fjord sits there for a while longer, not quite sure what to do.
----
He doesn’t do anything, at least, not anything different. The next few days pass, full of errands and preparations, and he’s not quite sure how to act, around Caleb. He’s had people tell him that they trust him, before, but he’s never been told that they trust him with their life, not so thoroughly, at least.
And it’s Caleb, who trusts him. Caleb, who he thought didn’t trust anyone, who he wasn’t certain even trusted Nott, not really.
Although, there were different levels of trust. Caleb said ‘with his life’ and who could say how much that meant to him. But, no, Caleb was a selfish man, and trusting someone with something as important as a life, that was, that was huge.
The most Vandren ever trusted him was to be second in command, to follow orders and to follow them well. The most the Mighty Nein have ever trusted him was to trust him as their Captain, to trust him to lead them, and that had been based on lies, and it had gone so poorly there was no way they could trust him the same way, not again.
But Caleb - this trust may have been built up by lies, by the facade he wears around his friends, but some part of it is real.
The thought of it terrifies him, but not as much as he feels it should.
---
He doesn’t bring up the conversation. He shoves it into the back of his mind, and he doesn’t think about it, at least, he tries. Setting up the Xhorhaus is a lot of work, and it’s easy enough to distract himself, even if he isn’t as busy as Jester and Caduceus are, with all their renovations.
And then, he enters into the tower, and he sees Caleb in the hot tub, drowning.
It is drowning - he knows what drowning looks like, can feel it in his bones, and there’s a movement to Caleb, on the edge of thrashing, and though he can see nothing holding the wizard down he knows that it’s a minute, if that, before he starts dying. So, without a second thought, he runs to the side and half climbs up on to the stone half wall, reaching in and pulling Caleb up to the surface and out.
Caleb chokes on air, and looks up, eyes wide with panic, and Fjord does his best not to fall in to the water, or drop Caleb, which he only barely manages.
“Fjord,” Caleb says, staring at him. “I didn’t think you were home.”
“Are you alright?” Fjord asks. “Did something happen? Was someone messing with your head?”
“Ah, no,” Caleb says, gently pulling himself out of Fjord’s grip. “No one was controlling me, nothing was wrong. If you had watched for a few more moments, I would have surfaced on my own.”
He thinks, again, about what he has been trusted with, and he can’t help but add fuel to the wandering thought of how much does Caleb value his own life, exactly?
“I know what you must be thinking,” Caleb says, and Fjord isn’t quite certain Caleb does, “but it is not a matter of self-harm. It is merely an exercise in control. In trust, as it were - trust in myself, to know my limits, to know my body.”
He thinks about trust, and how little he trusts himself.
“You shouldn’t be doing it without someone close by,” he says. “You need someone to pull you out, in case something happens.”
“Are you offering?” Caleb asks.
“Yeah,” he says. “Yeah, I am.”
“I know you didn’t, ah, believe me, when I told you I trusted you,” Caleb says. “So here is the proof.”
He reaches out, grabbing Fjord’s hand, and uses it to push himself back under the water.
Bodies naturally float. It takes effort, to keep yourself submerged below the water. Before, Caleb had done the work himself, but now, it was Fjord, his hand against Caleb’s chest, keeping him half a foot beneath the surface. As soon as Caleb let go, arms drifting out to the side, Fjord had almost pulled back, but a part of him wanted to see Caleb’s proof, and a part of him liked the feeling of holding his friend’s life in his hands.
He watched Caleb’s face intently, waiting for signs of struggle, to show he was out of breath. The wizard looked peaceful in a way he never did. It was something Fjord missed - floating out in the water, but even then, he’d never felt quite as at peace as Caleb looked.
There wasn’t struggle, not really, just a slight escape of air bubbles, a twitch, and Fjord pulled back, letting Caleb rise to the surface on his own. He coughed a little, but not much, and the peaceful looked carried over, just a little bit.
“See?” Caleb says, and Fjord can’t help but give a little laugh at that.
“I trust you too,” Fjord says, after a few moments of calm silence. “I couldn’t say it before, but I do. I trust you with my life.”
He slips off his shirt at that, and he lets himself fall backwards into the water, closing his eyes and dragging Caleb’s hand over him. If Caleb says anything in protest, it’s too blocked by the water for Fjord to here.
For a few moments, he is weightless, and then he is grounded by the feeling of Caleb’s hand, gentle, on his chest, holding him beneath the surface. He floats on the feeling of calm, lets himself relax as his air runs out.
His mind thinks to the ocean, thinks to the dark, thinks to tentacles pulling him down and with a rush of panic he bursts up, opening his eyes, only to find the water of the hot tub is no longer in the hot tub, is instead all over the the room, and all over Caleb, and some of it hanging in the air.
“Fuck,” Fjord says, and concentrates on the spell he hadn’t even realized he had cast to send the water back to where it should be. “That wasn’t as good a demonstration as I thought it would be.”
Caleb gives him a weary sort of look. “I don’t need you to trust me, Fjord,” he says. “This doesn’t have to be reciprocated.”
“I do trust you,” Fjord says. “It’s just-”
“Fear is a powerful thing, ja?” Caleb remarks. “I have spent a very long time getting over instincts like that.”
“I want to show you that I trust you,” Fjord says. “I know you don’t think it matters, but you just showed that you trust me with everything, and I need you to know that I do the same.”
“And the problem is how,” Caleb says. “If you come up with a solution-”
“Burn me,” Fjord says.
Caleb freezes from where he’s started to gather his (more than slightly soaked clothes). His face is turned away from Fjord, and in a much softer voice, he says, “what?”
“Not enough to do serious damage, just-” Fjord trails off. “I trust you not to hurt me.”
Caleb steps forward, and holds his hand out, gently, to Fjord’s chest, and with a whisper of arcane words, his fingertips light up with fire. Slowly, he moves them forward, until they almost touch, and even as he feels the heat, Fjord does not flinch, does not look away from Caleb.
The spell flickers. The heat vanishes. Caleb pulls his hand back.
“I’m sorry,” he mutters, grabbing his clothes and vanishing out into the hall before Fjord can even respond.
He doesn’t see Caleb in the hot tub again.
