CR Campaign One: Vox Machina era (characters)

The rules are under the cut for you to read if you haven't already checked out the profile!

Welcome to the kink meme for Critical Role!

This community is open to all fans of Critical Role no matter what your preference for pairing may be. You do not have to join the community: you can either watch it or just track the post. Anon commenting will always be on, and IP tracking will be off. So feel free to stay anon if it makes you more comfortable.

What is a Kink Meme?
It's pretty simple. You post a prompt and your fellow fans get inspired and write fic based on that prompt. As it is a "kink" meme, a great deal of fic will be of the smutty variety, so if you aren't into that or not of a porn-reading age, this place won't be for you. Not all fic has to be smutty, but it does have to be kinky.

Clarification: This is a kink meme, therefore prompts must be kink-based. It is not a general prompting/headcanons meme. There have been a couple of people confused by that, so we're just making it extra clear.

Please only post one prompt per comment so to avoid any confusion.

How do I prompt?
Post each prompt as a new comment to the main post. Include pairing (or threesome or more if that's your thing) and anything else you want to add. You should put, at the very least, the pairing in the subject line along with a specific kink if it applies. You can put the whole prompt in the subject if it will fit, but if it doesn't, use the comments. For example:

Subject line: Pike/Sarenrae, holy visitation

Body of comment: Pike gets a different kind of spiritual visitation one night.

I see a prompt I want to write! What now?
Go for it! You don't have to claim it, and fills can be written by more than one person. Once you've finished you must post it as a response to the original comment. Responses should use a subject line that includes the pairing, rating & any necessary warnings (i.e. incest, non-con, etc.). If you have titled your fic you can also include that. Also, as LJ limits the size of comments, if your fic goes into multiple comments, please note that your comment is part 1/5, part 2/5 and so on. Using the prompt above, the subject line could read:

"Holy Smitten, Pike/Sarenrae, NC-17, 1/5"

And now some rules...

  • Since we're all supposed to be adults here, let's act like it. Be respectful to your fellow posters.
  • Your kink is not someone else's and their kink may not be yours. If you don't like it, don't read it. It's really that simple.
  • Please no bashing of other pairings. Just like with kinks, everyone has their own flavors, and this is neither the time nor place for ship wars. This meme is meant to include the entire fandom.
  • Crossover prompts are allowed, but they must include a Critical Role character as a main part of the prompt.
  • RPF is also allowed, but please prompt it over here!
  • Het, slash, femmeslash? You're all welcome here. The more the merrier!
  • It's not a requirement by any means, but writers love feedback, so if you read something you enjoy, take a second to tell the writer. Whether it's a one word response or something longer, it's always appreciated.
  • Please follow basic kink meme etiquette by not linking the cast or crew to this meme.

While we want this to be a relaxed and cool place, we also don't want people to feel uncomfortable being here. If you have suggestions or comments on how this community can improve please address to them to [personal profile] criticalkink in a PM or drop a comment on this post.

The most important rule of all? HAVE FUN.

Now go forth and prompt!

Working my way through the show, one of the most fascinating and interesting things for me so far is the gradual and... shockingly compelling spiritualism of Vax and how it colors his friendship with Pike. In the Briarwood arc, when he reacts to her appearing by (IIRC) kneeling at her feet and taking her hand, resting it against his forehead. Very powerful stuff.

So, yeah, absolutely anything with Pike and Vax (and Sarenrae)?

He’d never fancied himself a believer.

There are too many gods out there and not a single one of them had ever kept him or his sister safe - they’d had to get by with their own bloodied hands, their own dirty feet, the weight they could carry on their back. No god had been there to ward off the stares of their childhood, no god had been there to save their mother, no god had been there to braid his sister’s hair or hold her while she cried or soothe the worried lines on her forehead. He’d had to do that all by himself.

So Vax doesn’t quite know why he feels so wrong, now, staring down at the broken symbol of Sarenrae. There’d been no false faith placed in her. She’d owed him nothing. Still, when a goddess had appeared to barter with him for Vex’s life he’d thought, just for a second, that maybe - .

He thinks she would’ve done it for Pike, if she’d asked, but Pike hadn’t been there. Not that it matters now. Once again it had been on him to drag his sister to safety, and he doesn’t regret trading his own life away for it, no matter how much Keyleth cries or Vex tries to pretend that nothing has changed. Percy knows what it means, to sign a contract with a god, but Percy is the last person he wants to confide in at the moment. Instead he avoids him and watches over his sister at night and keeps quiet, a little separate, a little lonely. He doesn’t want to talk about what happened, wouldn’t know where to start if he tried.

Vax starts aiming his daggers at the ravens that flutter around the castle. It doesn’t help much, and is a cruel sport besides, but it’s all he can think to do.

He’s standing on the barricades of the castle, his breath white and slow in the cold evening air of Whitestone, when he hears the soft footsteps of one of his friends approaching. He knows who it is by the way his shoulders relax instead of tense up, by the way his thumb finds the broken symbol of Sarenrae, and that’s enough to make him turn around instead of fade away into the darkness to continue brooding in peace.

Pike looks angelic in the snow. There are ice crystals clumping in her eyelashes and she’s dressed too lightly for a winter’s night in Whitestone - she’s clearly just arrived from their keep, and she looks as worn as Vax feels, frazzled around the edges and dried blood freckled around her wrists. She smiles at him, exhaustion in the corners of her eyes, and he can’t do anything but drop to his knees in front of her, the impact dulled by his new armor and the snow covering everything like a blanket.

There are a few inches between them still, and Vax realizes he’s afraid to touch her, afraid that she’ll turn into a flurry of snowflakes and disappear with the wind. She’s still not said a word, and he finds himself unable to break the silence - the syllables get stuck in his throat, too rusty from disuse to fall out of his mouth. All he can do is close his eyes when she reaches out to smooth a thumb across his cheekbone. He can feel her gaze on his face, assessing, almost possessive in the way she touches him. Her hand is warm.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” she says suddenly, and the pain in the words hits Vax like a blow to the gut. His face contorts, but her hand stays steady, as does her voice. Pike has never been afraid to say what needed to be said. She stops him from shaking his head, unwilling to let him absolve her of any of the blame for what happened, and instead uses her hand to tuck some of his hair back behind his ear before coming to rest in the nape of his neck as she regards him. He opens his eyes again, has to, and finds himself eye-to-eye with her as she continues speaking. “I’m here now, though. I won’t leave again.”

It’s a lie, but a merciful one, and enough to make the tears well up in Vax’s eyes as he lets himself be pulled closer, his forehead resting against her shoulder as he cries. He hasn’t since her sister opened his eyes again, and it wrecks him in great heaving sobs, his own hands clenched into fists on either side of him. Pike holds him steady, one hand on his neck and the other wrapping around his waist, and he feels like she’s holding his ribs together, like she’s the last tether he has to this world. She feels solid in a way that nothing else has all day.

He thinks he might be talking, just fragments of sentences coughed out into her shoulder. His sister’s name. Keyleth’s. Percy’s, once, like a hot iron tearing through his throat. Pike says nothing, just keeps her hands on him, keeps strong and steady like a shore he’s breaking himself apart on, and when Vax doesn’t think he can cry anymore, when he feels wrung out and empty and better than he has in days, she lets him sit back on his ankles and wipes the last of his tears away with both of her thumbs.

They just look at each other for a breath or two, the wind picking up around them and waving snow into their braids and the cracks in their armors. Then she stretches up, standing on her toes, and Vax bows his head as she presses her lips against his forehead. She’s still, somehow, warm.

“We’ll figure it out,” she says, and it’s not Keyleth crying over him or Vex pretending everything is okay, it’s honest and stubborn and strong, and for the first time all day Vax finds that he can breathe easier. He’s still not a believer, still not willing to put his faith into anything besides the daggers on his hip and the swiftness of his feet, but he can put his trust into Pike.

“Yes,” he says simply, his voice still scratchy after the crying but steady anyways. He glides to his feet in a simple movement, and it’s disconcerting how small Pike looks from up here, but then she smiles up at him and reaches to hold his hand, the one with Sarenrae’s symbol. Vax isn’t entirely sure she doesn’t do it on purpose.
