caleb not being sure whether he can trust astrid/eadwulf, but trying to bridge the gap anyways. he's willing to use whatever resources he has to find out. perhaps they use him for politics post-canon, with archmage astrid trying to gain power, or they just want bren back, or somewhere in between?
