Look. Lucien and the Tomb Takers had some weird connections with Xhorhas, and with magic that involves death and resurrection. Surely, surely Lucien could have met Essek at some point in his travels. Surely they could have flirted, or attempted to seduce each other, or been enemies trying to figure each other out in a spy vs. spy type situation.
Was Lucien's brutal thirst for knowledge both alluring and frightening to Essek? Was Essek trying to weed out these strange cultists and their charismatic leader? Was Lucien trying to perform a bastardized or profane consecution ritual when he "died" and came back as Molly?
